A method for welding aluminium alloy extrusions onto aluminium alloy sheet has the weld edge of the extruded reinforcing profiles (2) treated to remove recrystallization layers and thereby ensure a simple and secure weld. The profiles can be simply produced by cutting a double profile extrusion into two separate sections, with the cut edge exposing the non recrystallized surface. The recrystallized outer layers represent less than 15 percent of the thickness of the extrusions.
