The device has a first direction changing device (21) and a second direction changing device (22) for redirecting a shoulder belt section (20) at the height of the shoulder of a child and a third direction changing device (23) that, when a defined belt force is exceeded, can be moved relative to the second direction changing device so that a section of the safety belt is released in a defined manner. An independent claim is also included for a head protection cushion for a child's head.
