The roof for a convertible is made up of three sections (1 - 3). The front edge of the front section (1) fits against the car bodywork when the roof is closed. It is mounted on a parallelogram of levers (6, 7) whose lower ends are attached by pivots (A, G) to the middle section. A tie rod (8) connects the lever system to a similar system which controls the movement of the middle section. The tie rod has a four pivot system (9) which slows down the movement of the parallelogram system as the front section reaches the end of the closing cycle so that it closes gently.
