Apparatus for detecting substances in fluids comprises a piezosensor whose piezoelectric effect is dependent on the amount of substance it absorbs and a pyrosensor whose pyroelectric effect is dependent on the amount of substance it absorbs. An independent claim is also included for a method for detecting substances in fluids comprising applying the fluid to the sensors in an apparatus as described above and measuring the piezoelectric and pyroelectric effects.
