Operating multi-exhaust channel internal combustion engine involves comparing measured value of characteristic parameter with modeled value for channels with exhaust gas feedback treatment devices, detecting excessive deviation
The method involves measuring and modeling at least one parameter influenced by the exhaust gas feedback and characteristic of an exhaust gas characteristic for the at least two exhaust gas channels (10,15) with exhaust gas feedback treatment devices (20,25), comparing the measured value of the parameter with the modeled value for the channels and detecting an excessive deviation.
