The control method has a selected operating mode initiated in response to a braking command, with function monitoring within the rail vehicle systems for provision of a fault signal, which is cancelled by a braking command from the rail vehicle driver. The pressurized air is fed to the braking line after a plausibility check, for establishing the required braking pressure, with an over-ride facility provided by a manual or safety system braking command. An independent claim for a device for controlling a rail vehicle electropneumatic brake with emergency braking over-ride is also included.
