The method involves producing short-duration, small volume refractive index grids (9) by crossed pump laser beams whose propagation at the local speed of sound produces contrast modulation of the grid whose frequency is detected with a test laser beam under Bragg conditions and measured optoelectronic ally, enabling computation of the local speed of sound, which gives the local fluid temperature by the laws of thermodynamics. Positioning and alignment of the test laser light is carried out in the beam path of at least one of the crossing pump laser beams or directly in the beam path the original pump laser light.
