Method for continuously measuring the adhesion between a vehicle tire and a road surface in which the surface depth profile is continuously measured using a triangulation laser system. The noise associated with the measurement signal due to the motion of the vehicle is removed by application of an autocorrelation function and a Fourier transform to determine the power density. The adhesion factor is determined based on the spectral power density and a viscoelastic characterizing function of the tire material.
