Incremental gear (21) for a clamping and/or expansion tool with a fixed cheek (5) and a carrier (3) fixed to the fixed cheek is provided with at least two different step shafts for stepped displacement of a connecting rod (11) or traction rod together with the moveable cheek in relation to the fixed cheek in a direction of advancement (V) and comprises at least one actuation arm (31) that can be actuated with at least two lifting configurations. A device is provided for shifting from a first lifting configuration to a second lifting configuration. When the shifting device is actuated, especially in a predetermined operating state, the shifted lifting configuration is directly engaged in a non-transitional manner. An independent claim is also included for a tool for producing a clamping and/or expanding force, especially a clamp clip (1), comprising the above incremental gear.
