Overlapping joint (3) includes several plates (30) each having two areas, so that the second area overlaps the first area of the next plate when joined. Each of the plates has several apertures which receive fasteners, and a tab (31) for connection with an article, e.g. the leg of a clothes tree (42), a table or a chair, or a hanger (41) for a clothes tree.
