A track bed is constructed esp. with an antifreeze layer (1) and/or unbound and/or hydraulically bound sub base (2). The applied sub base or concrete base (3) are formed so that, together with the layers (1,2) below, they can accommodate the required loads. A single/double-layer compensation base (4), esp. of asphalt, is applied to the sub base or concrete base. The asphalt has no supporting function and only serves to level out any depressions in the sub base. It is applied to a thickness of less than 20cm, esp. less than 15cm, and pref. approx. 5-7cm. The concrete base has reinforcements, and conventional sleepers (5) or pre-fabricated concrete plates are positioned on the compensation base.
