The cable arcing detection method uses sampling of a detected AC signal (I(t)) at discrete time intervals, with interpolation of the sampled values for providing a trigonometric function (I(k)) representing the current characteristic, from which the AC frequency is derived. The actual AC frequency is compared with the required frequency, for identifying arcing along the cable (1), e.g. for operation of a circuit breaker. Also included are Independent claims for the following: (a) a cable arcing detection device; (b) a protection switch for an aircraft electrical system.
