PURPOSE: To provide a method for treating sewage and wastewater, which is able to efficiently treat and remove nitrogen and phosphorous from the sewage and wastewater in sequence. CONSTITUTION: The sewage and wastewater is treated in an anaerobic batch reactor (10) and a hydrid sequencing batch reactor (15). The anaerobic batch reactor removes nitrate nitrogen from the sewage and wastewater under anaerobic conditions and releases phosphorous. The hydrid sequencing batch reactor comprises a filter media filling portion (11) that is an adhesive area where a filter media filling layer (12) is formed to maintain a highly concentrated mixed liquid suspended solid, a floating area (13) that maintains a lowly concentrated mixed liquid suspended solid, and a partition (14) between the filter media filling portion and the floating area.
