A dictionary memory having a conversion table for converting an input character (Kana) into a character string (kanji) corresponding to the reading of the input character, and when the character string is input, corresponding to information on reading of the input character string from the conversion table in the dictionary memory. A dial-type selector having a converting unit for searching for a character string of a candidate to be rotated rotates to select reading of a character as a conversion target. By clicking the dial selector, characters are input one by one. When the readout of the character is input as the conversion target, the dial selector is double-clicked. When the dial type selector is double clicked, it enters the conversion candidate mode. In the conversion candidate mode, when the dial type selector rotates, the character string corresponding to the reading of the input character string is read out from the pre-memory and displayed as the conversion candidate. When the desired conversion candidate is selected, by clicking the dial selector, the character is determined and the converted character string is input.
