PURPOSE: A bi-directional wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network and a method for allocating its wavelength band are provided to minimize degradation of an optical communication system by effectively allocating a wavelength band. CONSTITUTION: In case of downlink transmission, optical signals each with a different wavelength outputted from the N number of bi-directional transmitter/receiver module(111) positioned in a central base station(110) are multiplexed by the 1xN AWGs(Array Waveguide Gratings)(112), transmitted to a local base station(120) through a single optical fiber(113), demultiplexed by the 1xN AWGs(114) of the local base station(120), and transmitted to a subscriber unit(130) through a single optical fiber(115), so as to be detected as an electrical signal by the N number of bi-directional transmitter/receiver module(116). In case of uplink transmission, optical signals each with a different wavelength outputted from the N number of bi-directional transmitter/receiver module(116) of the subscriber unit(130) are transmitted to the local base station(120) through the single optical fiber(115), multiplexed by the 1xN AWGs(114), transmitted to the central base station(110) through the single optical fiber(113), and demultiplexed by the 1xN AWGs(112), so as to be detected as an electrical signal by the N number of bi-directional transmitter/receiver module(111).
