PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for transparent layer 2 routing in a mobile ad hoc network are provided to obtain information on neighbor MANET(Mobile Ad hoc Network) nodes without using an invading unit and without requesting an IP address to be assigned to a network interface by cutting off an internal data packet from an L2 layer. CONSTITUTION: A data processor(220) executes instructions of an MANET control program(240) which controls the overall operation of an MANET node(105). When the MANET node(105) is being operated in an MANET, the data processor(220) generates route tables(250) by storing route information received from neighbor MANET nodes. An AODV(Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector) protocol algorithm(241) performs unicast and multicast routing, and generates a route among MANET nodes only when receiving a corresponding request from a source node. An RF transceiver(210) wirelessly communicates with MANET nodes. A controller, which consists of the data processor(220) and a memory(230), receives a data packet from the RF transceiver(210) and transmits a data packet to the RF transceiver(210). Also, the controller receives the first data packet from an IP layer related to the first MANET node, determines the first MAC(Media Access Control) address related to the first data packet, and adds the first MAC address to the first data packet.
