PURPOSE: A method for selecting the optimum data service system in a dual-mode mobile terminal supporting both a CDMA2000 system and an EVDO(Evolution Data Only) system is provided to offer good service quality to users by selecting the optimum service system suitable for each data service characteristic in consideration of both a forward margin bandwidth and a reverse margin bandwidth. CONSTITUTION: In case that the type of a requested data service is symmetrical, a dual-mode mobile terminal judges a service-available candidate system(S201). If a CDMA2000 1x system is only available, the mobile terminal selects a smaller one between forward/reverse spare bandwidths as the spare bandwidth of the CDMA2000 1x system(S202). If an EVDO system is only available, the mobile terminal also selects the smaller one as the spare bandwidth of the EVDO system(S203). Then the mobile terminal compares the obtained spare bandwidth with the minimum effective bandwidth that the requested data service requires(S204). In case that the CDMA2000 1x system is only available, the mobile terminal compares the spare bandwidth of the CDMA2000 1x system with the minimum effective bandwidth required for the requested data service. If it is satisfactory, the mobile terminal selects the CDMA2000 1x system.
