PURPOSE: A method for preparing a silica microcapsule, a silica microcapsule prepared by the method and a coating agent containing the silica microcapsule are provided, to reduce the environmental pollution compared with a method using an alkaline gelling agent such as liquid ammonia and to allow various core materials to be used irrespective of the kind such as hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity or organic and inorganic materials. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of adding tetraethyl ortho-silicate (TEOS) to an aqueous solution containing a hydrolysis catalyst to prepare a precursor solution containing a precursor material represented by (OH)_(3-x)(RO)_x-Si-O-£Si-O-Si|_n-Si(RO)_x(OH)_(3-x); and adding a core material and aminopropyltriethoxysilane to the precursor solution and emulsifying the obtained one in a solution having a polarity opposite to that of the core material to allow the core material to be infiltrated by the sol-gel reaction at an emulsion interface, wherein R is a C1-C10 alkyl group; x is 1, 2 or 3; and n is an integer of 100-1,200. Preferably the core material is a hydrophobic or hydrophilic, organic or inorganic material.
