PURPOSE: To properly determine the size of a vent stack by precisely calculating force of saturated water applied to the vent stack, thereby preventing the damage of the vent stack. CONSTITUTION: A method for determining the size of a vent stack in a relief valve comprises the steps of: determining the shape of the vent stack(S201); inputting design data about the size of a pipe, flow rate and valve pressure(S202); calculating temperature and pressure in an outlet of the relief valve(S203); calculating temperature and pressure in an outlet port of the vent stack(S204); calculating the coefficient of friction, temperature and pressure in an inlet of the vent stack(S205); determining whether the conditions of the inlet and outlet of the vent stack coincide with set entropy standards(S206); determining whether the conditions of the inlet and outlet of the vent stack coincide with momentum standards(S207); and determining the size of the vent stack(S208).
