In a pyrolysis process to synthesize a cold, tar-free gas from biomass residues, the process heat is synthesized away from the pyrolysis process and is transferred to the synthesis process by radiation. The process makes use of super-heated steam and not air. The unburned residues are removed by sieving, cooled, and are then used as cleaning and cooing agents. Heated cleaning substances containing tar and condensate are returned to the incineration process. The cooling worms and their containers are double-walled and are cooled by water. Heat from the incineration gases are used for steam generation. A high pressure pump injects water into the steam generator which is surrendered to the pyrolysis reactor, thereby generating flash steam. The gasification process takes place without the admixture of air.
