The press working apparatus of the present invention is adapted so that the apparatus moves at a large moving speed in a first stroke stage before the press working of a workpiece, and a large pressing force is produced at a second stroke stage at which the workpiece is about to be pressed. The press working apparatus has a first cylinder of a small diameter, and a second cylinder of a large diameter; the moving speed of a first piston in the first cylinder is made substantially equal to the moving speed of a second piston in the second cylinder in the first stroke stage, and the pressing force exerted onto the workpiece is made larger by the movement of the second piston in accordance with Pascal's law.
