The present invention refers to a feta-type cheese, which is resistant to Listeria monocytogenes and a method for producing same. The cheese is resistant to the contamination generated by lactobacillus, which reduces the possibility of the same to turn sour or spoiled. The resistance to Listeria monocytogenes and lactobacillus is accomplished by incorporating nisin and/or a culture producing nisin in the milk source, followed by the traditional process for manufacturing a feta-type cheese. The collected nicin remains in the cheese even after the culture producing nicin is dead.
