An electromagnetic wave analyzer which numerically analyzes the behavior of electromagnetic waves at a higher computation speed, even when the object model has fine geometrical features. An analysis command input unit produces a command to initiate a simulation. Upon receipt of this command, an analyzing unit starts to calculate electromagnetic field components with an alternating direction implicit FD-TD method. The analyzing unit divides each time step into a first-half and second-half stages and alternately executes their respective operations. Take a TE wave for instance. Receiving data at time nDELTAt from a second-half stage processor, a first-half stage processor calculates electromagnetic field components at time (n+1/2)DELTAt. At this stage, x-direction electric field components Exn+1/2 are obtained with an explicit method, and y-direction electric field components Eyn+1/2 and z-direction magnetic field components Hzn+1/2 with an implicit method. The second-half stage processor receives the result of the first-half stage computation, and based on this data, it calculates electromagnetic field components at time (n+1)DELTAt. At this stage, y-direction electric field components Eyn+1 are obtained with an explicit method, as well as x-direction electric field components Exn+1 and z-direction magnetic field components Hzn+1 with an implicit method.
