PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an additive for a combination paper, having various characteristics as an interlayer adhesive using an acrylamide based water-soluble polymer, good in spray suitability and hardly causing problems about the fouling of a paper machine and to provide a method for producing the combination paper. ;SOLUTION: This additive for a combination paper is obtained by using an amphoteric type copolymer prepared by copolymerizing a monomeric mixture containing (a) 40-91 mol.% (meth)acrylamide, (b) 1-15 mol.% methacrylic acid, (c) 1-15 mol.% water-soluble cationic monomer and (d) 5-30 mol.% hydrophobic monomer. The surface of a wet paper ply before the combination is coated with the resultant additive for the combination paper and the combination is then carried out to produce the combination paper of two or more plies.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
