The present invention is directed to: (I) hgf.alpha. Chains derived from a group consisting of the following: (I) deletion and substitution of one or several amino acids from peptide N and (II) peptide n sequences having amino acid sequences represented by sequence A peptide variant that is induced by addition. The peptide n has antiangiogenic activity by a mechanism different from the competitive binding of HGF to the HGF-R receptor. The present invention also relates to therapeutic use and preparation methods of the peptide material, and (I) DNA fragments expressing it, plasmid containing the DNA, and bacteria possessing the plasmid.
