PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct license management for an OS in a unit of a recording medium having the OS recorded thereon.;SOLUTION: The OS is recorded on a demountable recording medium and is started up by being read from a recording medium-mounted computer. The OS allows the computer to function as: a section for reading recording medium identification information from the recording medium; a section for reading, from the recording medium, startup origin identification information for specifying the recording medium permitted to serve as the startup origin of the OS; a section for detecting a disagreement state where the recording medium specified by the startup origin identification information does not agree with the recording medium identified by the recording medium identification information; and a function restriction section made usable by starting up the OS by the computer when no disagreement state is detected and restricting the function of the OS when the disagreement state is detected.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
