PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing high-purity lithium tellurite by a simplified process.;SOLUTION: The method for producing high-purity lithium tellurite desirable as a raw material for a tellurite glass fiber is provided. This method comprises a step of dissolving tellurium dioxide in an aqueous lithium hydroxide solution prepared so that the lithium element may be present in an amount two-molar times the amount of the tellurium element of the tellurium dioxide in an inert gas atmosphere, a step of heating and concentrating the resultant aqueous solution to deposit lithium tellurite, a step of evaporating the precipitate of the deposited lithium tellulite to dryness, and a step of comminuting the dried substance by grinding. In this way, the production of high-purity lithium tellurite can be performed by a simplified process, and when the lithium tellurite is applied, the production of a low-loss tellurite glass fiber and the production of a high-reliability optical fiber amplifier using the tellurite glass fiber as an amplification medium can be realized.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
