Method involves using a X-ray image apparatus (10) with a receiver (14) to receive X-ray from an X-ray source (12). Patient (9) is placed on a board between the source and receiver. Minimum and maximum scaling factors are then determined at a patient surface along the path of the X-rays across the patient, using distances between source and receiver (SID), patient and receiver (Drange) and patient and source (Dmin). Minimum factor is proportional to ratio between distance separating source and receiver, and distance separating patient and source. Maximum factor is proportional to ratio between distance separating source and receiver, and distance separating patient and receiver.
