The device includes a source of laser beams (28, 36) and two lens (32, 40) mounted in the wall of a cylinder (10). The source is connected to each of two lenses such that the laser beam reaches the end (26) of a fuel injector (20). The lens (32) is mounted on a sub-assembly that is arranged for being screwed in the cylinder head to the place of a sparkplug.
