Reducing the resin acid content of lichen extracts, useful in perfuming compositions, comprises partitioning the extract between polar and nonpolar solvents and washing the nonpolar phase with alkali
Reducing the resin acid content of a lichen extract comprises dissolving the extract in a polar solvent, adding an immiscible nonpolar solvent, stirring the mixture, washing the nonpolar phase with an alkaline aqueous solution, concentrating the polar and nonpolar phases and recombining them. Independent claims are also included for: (1) lichen extract with a total resin acid content below 6 wt.%; (2) perfuming composition comprising a lichen extract as above.
