Buccal and dental hygiene product (A) for human or veterinary use is based on melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) (I) and used in a toothpaste, collutory or animal feed. The toothpaste is prepared using both hydrophilic and hydrophobic excipients. (A) is suitable for use in the magistral and/or industrial preparation of toothpastes and/or collutories. The content of (I) in the toothpaste, collutory or animal feed is 0.1-5%.
