Water-soluble or water-dispersible amphoteric copolymer (I) derived from a dialkenylammonium monomer and hydrophilic acid-functional monomer is used in a two-in-one or three-in-one washing and rinsing composition for dishwashing machines. Water-soluble or -dispersible amphoteric copolymer (I) derived from a dialkenylammonium monomer of formula (II) and hydrophilic acid-functional monomer is used in a two-in-one or three-in-one washing and rinsing composition for dishwashing machines. R1, R4 = H or 1-6C alkyl; R2, R3 = 1-6C alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or aminoalkyl; n, m = 1-3; and X = an anion. Independent claims are also included for: (1) dry solid preformulation comprising (I) adsorbed and/or absorbed on a particulate water-soluble inorganic support; and (2) two-in-one or three-in-one dishwasher detergent formulation comprising at least 20% sodium tripolyphosphate, less than 15% sodium silicate (SiO2/Na2O molar ratio = 1-4), 0.02-0.5% (I) and 0.1-20% nonionic surfactant.
