The invention relates to compositions intended to be applied on the surfaces of mortars and / or concretes freshly cast, before the beginning of setting, in order to prevent the evaporation of water necessary for their setting and hardening, which is characterized in that, in order to make them a synergistic with respect to the retention of water, they are composed, in the form of aqueous emulsions: a) of at least a paraffin oil or synthetic origin containing, as a mixture of saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons, aliphatic of general formulae cnh2n + 2 and cnh2n for which n is equal to at least 30 and whose melting point is between 40°C. and 75°C; b) of at least one hydrocarbonaceous oil linear and / or cyclic, aliphatic and / or naphthenic, which are of the hydrocarbon chains, alone or in mixture, of general formulae cnh2n + 2 and cnh2n for which n is less than 30, in a liquid state at room temperature; c) and / or at least one oil formed of at least one ester resulting from the condensation reaction of a saturated fatty acid and / or unsaturated, with an alcohol, mono-, di- or trihydric.
