The solar energy collector (1) has a housing (2) within which is installed a heat collecting component (3) and a component (4) located between the solar energy collector and housing which blocks air convective heat transfer to reduce heat convection. The housing has a front cover (11), back plate (18) and a number of frames (16), with the back plate located above and below the frame sections. The heat collecting component is installed between the front cover and back plate.
