A braking system for a pushchair has a shaped hub rotating with the wheel and with a brake band fixed at one end and with the other end attached to a spring and a remote brake linkage. The spring holds the brake in the released position while the remote linkage pulls the brake band onto the hub, and is operated by a brake control on the handgrip of the pushchair. The brake control includes a locking claw which is pulled into a profiled section of the hub to lock the wheel.
