Device for handing over of keys, especially for automatic receipt and identification of keys, comprises a receiver for acquisition of an identification signal and a transmitter, in the form of a transponder integrated in a key, that transmits an identification signal that is recognized by the receiver. The receiver is configured so that it time-stamps the time of receipt of the identification signal in a manner such that the times can be subsequently interrogated. The invention also relates to a corresponding method for intelligent handing over of keys.
