The engine has a parallel-twin arrangement with four pistons. The main crankshaft (66) journals lie flat in a plane with the outer journals in the same direction and the pistons of cylinders 3 and 2 are driven by the other main journal via main (64) and auxiliary connecting rods for cylinders 3 and 2 and for cycle charging with simultaneous mass equalisation, whereby the charging air is forced into cylinders via tongue valves.
