Production of a coated molded component made from hardened steel comprises cutting a mold plate from a coated coil material so that the coating can be removed on both sides in the regions which are to be heated to the deformation and/or hardening temperature, cold forming the plate, and hot forming and/or partially hardening in the coating-free regions. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of a one-piece B-column (1) made from hardened steel having a high strength structure over its length (3) and coated in the region of its ductile foot (2).
