The loss reduction device reduces the compression shock (7) in the supersonic flow region (6) of a surface (5). A shock-inducing device (10) induces a weak shock in the flow, causing at least a 20% reduction in the cross section of the flow passing through the supersonic flow region. At least one shock-inducing device, consisting of a body (9), is spaced out from the surface in the supersonic flow region.
