A device for producing shock waves comprises a pressure impulse source for production of a primary pressure impulse, at least a reflector element, a shock wave transparent membrane, a pressure wave conducting medium and a device with an adjustment mechanism for changing the size of a reflection surface (5) within the beam path of the primary pressure pulse.
