Vehicle power assisted steering system control method in which at low speeds or during parking, if one of certain conditions is fulfilled it is assumed there is an obstacle that could damage a tire so triggering counter-measures
Method for steering a motor vehicle with power assisted steering in which the torque that can be applied to the wheels is limited in the following three conditions: if the torque applied to a wheel exceeds a threshold value; if the torque applied to the steering column exceeds a threshold value or; if the driver continues to try and turn the steering wheel when the rate of change of the steering angle is zero. If any of the above three conditions apply then it is assumed that an obstacle is preventing further turning and the torque is limited. An Independent claim is made for a motor vehicle power steering device, especially a steer-by-wire device.
