Device for testing the pressure and deformation behavior of viscoelastic foam in which the sample (8) is compressed towards a rigid support by a predetermined amount and then after a given time in compressed state, suddenly released so that it can resume its earlier shape. The pressure plate (12) is designed to be light and rigid and is held in place by switchable retaining members. The invention also relates to a corresponding testing method.
