Manufacture of display zone e.g. of illuminated transparent plastic touch key uses galvanizable plastic base layer to which non-galvanizable and galvanic layers are applied
The procedure consists of making a base (1) from an opaque galvanizable plastic material, applying a layer of a non-galvanizable material such as a photosensitive resist (2) to part of the base and applying a galvanic layer (3) of the same thickness round it. The photosensitive resist and galvanic layer are then covered with a protective layer (4) such as a transparent varnish. When the display zone is back-lit the light is able to pass through the photosensitive resist but not through the galvanic layer, so that the uncovered portion of the photosensitive resist appears as an illuminated symbol.
