A method for power-conserving operation of computer during which the PC/Server (1) is automatically switched off after a fixed period of inactivity or assumes a power-saving idle state and is re-started by the respond of another network computer, via his/her IP-address, in which starting results from a simple computer with low power demand (MWS-mini-web server), preferably a single-chip micro-computer, which is addressable via the same IP-address as the PC/Server (1). The MWS (2) according to an IP- request switches the PC/Server on/active and via a stand-by signal switches the network line (8) over to a re-assumed basic switching state for the PC-server (1). An Independent claim is included for an arrangement for power-saving operation of an IP-addressable computer (PC/server) in a network via a network line.
