The arrangement has a fuel cell stack (10) whose cells each have an electrolyte matrix between an anode and a cathode and are separated by bipolar plates. Gas flow paths for combustion gas and/or cathode gas have sections partly against the main flow direction of the relevant gas that can be supplied with gas at relatively low temperature in order to cool the fuel cells.
