A process is described for the production of iron hydroxide, iron oxide hydrate or iron oxide from filter salts of the dilute acid recovery, in which the filter salts are dissolved in water, the solution to a ph - value of 1 is set, then by addition of a strong base while stirring, a ph - value of 2 to 4 is set, the substances precipitating in this case be separated in a known way, the remaining solution with addition of a strong base and of an oxidizing agent to a ph - value of 6 to 8 is set, the precipitated iron hydroxide from the solution is separated off, washed, dried and optionally to iron oxide is annealed.
