PURPOSE: An apparatus for controlling a full-digital-type static var compensator with an algorithm downloading function is provided to improve the stability of an electric power system by providing a reactive power to the electric power system which is made by using a DSP(Digital Signal Process)-based real time simulator. CONSTITUTION: A real-time simulator(1) is a DSP-based computer. A panel computer(2) is connected to the real-time simulator(1) and downloads a simulation model to the real-time simulator(1). An A/D(Analog/Digital) converter(3) inputs a voltage and a current of an electric power system to the real-time simulator(1). A firing pulse generator(4) connects the input of the A/D converter(3) to external voltage and current signals and generates a 14-bit digital thyristor firing angle. A thyristor valve group(5) outputs the thyristor firing angle as a pulse signal. The real-time simulator(1) calculates internal variables to output them to a D/A converter(6). An analog output from the D/A converter(6) is sent to a panel meter(7).
