PURPOSE: A method for constructing materials information data base and method for issuing materials code are provided to issue code of materials by representing a common name, characteristic and standard of the materials. CONSTITUTION: A materials classification DB group(100) stores information of materials classification like "mechanical materials". An item classification DB group(200) stores information of item classification like "belt". An item name classification DB group(300) stores information of item name classification like "V-belt". An item number classification DB group(400) stores information of code like "BA01020025" representing mechanical materials(B), belt(A), V-belt(01), type B(02) and size 25(0025) respectively. When an administrator registers a materials, the administrator inputs an item name subject term representing the materials like V-belt. If the V-belt exits, a subject element like type B, size 25 and an identification element like 02, 0025 is checked and updated for validation and standardization. If V-belt doesn't exit, the V-belt is searched and updated in item subject terms stored in the item classification DB group (200). The materials information is shared with registered users via internet by a server.
