PURPOSE: A rope braking system for an elevator is provided to shorten a clamping response time of a moving plate without using a spring between the moving plate and a fixing plate. CONSTITUTION: A rope braking system for an elevator comprises a single frame housing(200); a cylinder(300) mounted on the frame housing and having a restoration unit for restoring a rod; a guide block(400) facing the inner side of the frame housing; a moving plate(500) coupled to the rod of the cylinder and having a guide block housing in such a manner that the moving plate moves along the guide block; a fixing plate(600) facing the moving plate; and a lining(700).
