PURPOSE: A communication system supporting telecommuting and a control method thereof are provided to register an IP phone of a person of telecommuting as an extension so that it can be used as the same extension as the extension of a key phone system. CONSTITUTION: A receiving unit(50a) receives packet data with respect to a phone start message transmitted from a remote IP phone through the Internet. An authenticating unit(50b) decodes the packet data, checks whether the remote IP phone can be registered as an extension, allocates an extension number to the remote IP phone if the remote IP phone can be registered as an extension, and generates packet data for transmitting extension function operation information to the remote IP phone. A storing unit(50c) stores IP phone information included in the phone start message. A transmitting unit(50d) transmits the packetized extension function operation information to the remote IP phone through the Internet.
